Historical Research Regarding Corporate Name

The Situation

A client approached us with an interesting problem. They needed to demonstrate that a corporate name was in use in Colorado since the late 1800’s.

The client had already conducted some of the historical research but was unable to locate references to the name in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. The client would accept references made in newspaper articles or advertisements, the Yellow Pages, and other relevant directories.

Excellent- thank you so much!

Our Unique Approach

At Access/Information, as much as we like to rely on the Internet and digital information there are times when a client needs boots on the ground to locate hard to find sources. The years the client was interested in and the types of materials required a researcher to conduct in-person research at the Denver Public Library Western History Department.

By searching city directories and the Yellow Pages that had been microfilmed for the relevant time period, we were able to locate the corporate name. Given the time period of interest, the quality of the microfilm had deteriorated but by being creative and enlarging the entries we were able to secure readable copies for our client’s use.
